The new deviant art edit system thing was taking too long >:/ so i instead opted to resubmiting the new updated picture. Scrappy background is scrappy but at least it's something to look at. At first I was disapointed that Vincen blocks most of the buildings but now I think it's for the better. overall not a very, blended peice. You can definately tell they were coloured at different times and different pallets, oh well.
The bellow text is the same from the first version, "best class ever".
This semester I have "Introduction to 2D and 3D Animation" an the class is all about teaching us the basics of what we would do in either. This week was all about colouring a character in photoshop. Because it's fun (and to avoid any copyright stuff) i drew my adorable Vincen

. I drew it first by hand, then took a picture and made a digital lineart (teacher was impressed at how clean the "pencil" millage was, then i told him i cheated

).
Took about 4 hours to colour.
Next week we'll be doing backgrounds next and then sticking the two together. I would LIKE to put him in a dersert type city environment (got pics of Jerusalem for references) but so far my attempts have been monstrous. :/ we'll see....
NOTE: and three hours of effort later and the scrappy background is complete.
The domed building is The Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem. I wanted to put something in there that definately said "desert city". I actually intended to have it only siluetted when I first thought of the idea.
Quarks to fix?

I'm also bad at drawing background, and just started to learn it. So, I'm a bit clueless if you ask about it
Visit my gallery sometimes, although I only drew simple background for my creatures n dragons n say something about it if you want
Looking at your stuff it seams like your well on your way. My suggestion is to get reference to what else you can add to fill out the background more and draw things in 3 dimension before adding details (ie cylanders for tree branches to see them coming towards or away from you, and what's above/ bellow horrizon line). Your characters look very grounded/ solid none the less.
